Introduction

In this digital project I will be focusing on three German objects from the Centennial Exposition of 1876. I will analyze my three objects visually and also from the research I have gathered. The three objects I have gained research for this project are The Krupp Cannon, The Otto Engine, and a cabinet in the wood working section in the German section of the main hall.

In my research I have gained knowledge that all three objects are related to two themes in empire. I have related the objects to the theme of Power and Pride. Power in that all these objects hold a certain power, the Krupp Cannon is military power, to show off their strength just after winning the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. The Otto Engine is actually a source of power. The hunting scene shown in the cabinet shows hunters over powering the deer, the deer being such a fragile animal not able to attack back. All of these objects also show the theme of pride. Since winning the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 and also being unified the Germans have a certain way of showing off their pride. (1)
